Translation Management

Translations

Elements within the Sennen system can be translated to other languages.  Initially this is done via an interface with Google Translate, and these can subsequently be refined by key users.

Included areas:

  • Dashboard titles.
  • Table headings.
  • Field names.
  • Chart titles and legends.
  • Buttons and toggles.

Excluded areas:

  • Menu and sub-menu headings.
  • Site/project names.
  • Tab titles.
  • Notification channel names and messages.
  • Data (user-entered; from integrations; system configuration/customisation).

Setting your preferred language

Each user can set their preferred language from a small list of pre-configured options.  If the desired language is not available, it can be requested via a power user.  Sennen will review the request and action accordingly.

User instructions:

  • Click on your profile icon at the top right, next to the company logo.
  • On the 'language' tab, select from the dropdown list.
  • The page will briefly reload, with the selected language now in use.

Refining translations

As the translations are generated through Google Translate, there may be minor inaccuracies with the results. These can be edited by administrators in the translation management dashboard.  Corrections will be populated across the system for all users.

Access the Translations management dashboard via the Admin menu.

  • When initially accessing the dashboard, no information is shown - just the message 'please search for translations'.
  • In the search box, type a word and press return/enter.
    • The searched word can be in any of the available system languages.
  • Use the 'select language' dropdown to filter the results.
    • This can be used to exclude any languages which are not of interest.
  • The results include anywhere the searched word is used in the system, where it is editable.
    • Results include individual words, and in phrases.
    • The existing translation is shown in the selected language/s.
  • If the translation requires editing, do this via the 'Translations' field.
    • Click outside of the field and the revision will be saved.
    • The 'last update' field displays the user who made the revision, and date this occurred.

Once a sentence has been translated, it will stay as the user has amended it - unless someone manually edits it again. Only phrases and sentences that have not yet been translated will be run through the latest version of Google Translate.  For example, if a new dashboard is added to the system and it contains a new phrase, this will be translated and added to the database.
